Nestled in the outer suburbs of northern Brisbane One Mile Country Club is a quirky little course that offers something different.  Worth the trip.

The Course

As you walk into the course the first thing you will see is a dodgy old demountable shed converted into the club house and /or Pro Shop.  Don’t let first impressions count.  One Mile Country Club is a small but superbly designed course.  Offering hills, water, bunkers, water, fast greens and you guessed it water, this course although made up of strangely 10 holes???, is surprisingly good.

The Variety

One Mile Country Club is always going to struggle in this category.  Offering only 10 holes (played twice for a full 20), the course is a mixture of tight par three and par four holes.  No par five holes ensure that the woods mostly stay in the bag.  One Mile Country Club makes up for these hiccups by providing a brilliant layout some with very unusual holes.

The Challenge

The lack of any long holes at One Mile Country Club will leave the experienced golfer a little disappointed.  The upside is that most of the holes presented are very unforgiving with either water, sand or bush surrounding most greens.  Bring plenty of balls.

The Price

At $13.00 for ten holes, the price is definitely great value.

The Facilities

As mentioned earlier, One Mile Country Club does not offer much in way of facilities.  The Pro Shop is very small with its only purpose to collect green fees and sell beer.  No motorised buggies are available due to the length of the course.

The People

No problems here.  Everyone was friendly and approachable.  Top marks.

The Extras

This category is aimed at rewarding those courses that provide that one unforgettable hole.  One Mile Country Club has plenty of these.

Hole 2 is a par 3 with an elevated green totally surrounded by shrub.  Hit straight and don't go long!

Hole 3 is a par 3 with an elevated green with a everything (including the green) running down towards a ominous creek.

Hole 5 is a 199m par 4.  From the tee box the green is unseen.  Hit over the creek and bush and to cut the dogleg and set up a birdie.

Hole 8 is a 97m par 3.  Apart from the tee box and green, this hole has no grass.  Just lots of water and sand.  Hit true and hope.
